Tatra Mountains
Tatra Mountains are found in the southern Poland, 100 km from Krakow, on the border between Poland and Slovakia. They can be divided into four parts, the most popular being the High Tatras, with a typically alpine character, and Western Tatras, with a slightly more gentle skyline. They are the highest and most inaccessible Polish mountains, with a unique plant cover. Steep rock precipices, sheer, high ridges and peaks enchant with their beauty and are a veritable tourist magnet.
Activities and places worth seeing
Morskie Oko and Czarny Staw - these lakes are easily accessible even to inexperienced tourists. Morskie Oko is considered by many to be the most beautiful mountain lake in Poland. A lodge located on the shore of the lake is an excellent staging area for an excursion to Rysy - the highest peak on the Polish side of Tatra Mountains (2499 m asl).
Valley of the Five Lakes (Dolina Pięciu Stawów) - From Morskie Oko one may follow a tourist trail through the Szpiglasowa Pass and visit equally charming Valley of the Five Lakes. It is less frequently visited by tourists, and is one of the most beautiful valleys in Poland. Overgrown by with dwarf mountain pine, hiding the Five Lakes, it is surrounded by the impressive peaks of the Eagle Ridge (Orla Perć), the most exiting tourist trail in High Tatras, passing next to precipices hundreds of meters high.
Kościeliska and Chochołowska Valleys -the two most popular valleys in West Tatras are an excellent destination for excursions. Surrounded by forests, they offer the view on old shepherd's shelters, or flocks of grazing sheep. From the valleys trails lead to many caves hidden in rocky recesses and among forests. We recommend visiting the Mroźna cave, which was made accessible to tourists.
Zakopane - Zakopane is one of the best known tourist towns in Poland. The town also attracts with its unique climate, where authentic folk culture of Polish Tatra Highlanders coexists in harmony with many cultural events. It also attracts with the charm of its pubs, the concerts in cellars, the fleeting look at the mountains, and the lazy, colourful crowd on Krupówki, the main street of Zakopane.
