Mazury Borecka Forest and Wigry National Park
The north-eastern Poland - Mazury is a place untainted by industry. Clean, wild nature with Wigry National Park is a place where one can still meet wild animals in their natural habitat. We offer you visits in such places, so rare on the map of Europe.
Activities and places worth seeing
Łuknajno Lake - reserve with one of the largest refuges of the mute swan in Poland. From spring until autumn hundreds of swans stay here (up to 2500). One can observe here over 175 species of birds, of which 95 are nesting. In the year 1977 it has been recognized by UNESCO biosphere reserve (MaB), and in the year 1978 the lake has been placed on the list of international reserves of the RAMSAR Convention.
Warnołty Lake - the reserve protects a shallow overgrowing lake which is a branch of Śniardwy. It is a hatching place of many species of water and marsh birds and the feeding site of rare species of birds of prey.
Royal Pine - the reserve protects over 200 years old pine wood, with additions of English oak, spruce and birch, and 3 dystrophic lakes with relic flora of high peat bogs.
"Zakręt" reserve - a place where one may admire "floating peat bog islands".
"Krutynia" reserve - in this reserve, stretching along the Krutynia river one may meet kingfishers, otters, American minks and acquaint oneself with plants of forest undergrowth. On rocks in the Krutynia river one may see the ldebrandtia rivularis red algae, which is a proof of the clean water.
Borecka Forest - many small predators are common here (fox, racoon dog, badger, pine marten, common polecat and muskrat), but one may also meet lynx and wolf. As for rare birds, one should pay attention to white-tailed sea eagle, osprey and black stork. The biggest animal attraction is doubtlessly the wisent roaming in the wild. In Wolisko, on a former Wisent Breeding Center there is an area with an observation platform which enables tourists to watch usually a few of the 60 wisents living on the area of the forest.
