Puszcza Bia這wieska
Puszcza Bia這wieska is the last natural deciduous forest in Europe. Due to its environmental diversity it represents an unique natural value, on a world-wide scale. The fragments of natural forests preserved until today are an enclave for many rare plants and animals (lynx, wolf, wisent). Puszcza Bia這wieska is one of a few places in which the action of million years old ecological and evolutionary processes were never interrupted. The forest was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Activities and places worth seeing
Exhibition reserve of wisents - currently in the Exhibition Reserve one can see every type of ungulate found in the Puszcza Bia這wieska: wisent (European bison), deer, roe and wild boar. A pair of wolves is an additional attraction. In the Reserve one can also see animals that are do not live in the wild - Polish horses, also known as tarpans, and zubron - a cross between wisent and cow.
"Royal Oak Route" - a path through a great complex of over 400 years old oaks, which have been given the names of Lithuanian and Polish rulers and their wives. Each tree has a short description. The path can be found in the "Old Bialowieza" forest area.
Other reserves and natural monuments include:
- "Prof. W豉dys豉w Szafer's nature reserve" with a surface of 1356 hectares created in order to preserve the state of forests along the Hajn闚ka-Bia這wie瘸 road.
- "Podcerkwa" forest reserve, created to protect typical and low wet-ground forest.
- "Koz這we Borki" forest reserve, created to protect the spruce and ash peat forest group.
- "Podolany" forest reserve with a surface of 15.1 hectares, created to protect wet-ground oak, alder and ash forest.
